Makeup Overload? Tips To Avoid That Post-Halloween Breakout.

by Jaz Fenton |

Alright girls! It’s that time of year again when we unleash our inner ghouls, gorge on chocolate, and wear enough makeup to impress everyone on the ‘gram. You’ve already been prepping your costume and makeup regime for weeks to make sure your selfie game is on point. As fun as Halloween makeup is, if you don’t educate yourself properly, all those layers of face paint can really hurt your skin.

But don’t worrywe’ve got you covered. Keep on reading for some easy skincare tricks (and treats) so you can continue watching that crazy-complex makeup tutorial in peace.

Before The Big Night...

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

With our busy schedules, it’s really easy to forget to drink water. Especially in anticipation for Halloween, be sure to hydrate even more than usual. Step your water game up a notch by adding some lemon, turmeric, or apple cider vinegar to the mix. You can also steep some fruit slices that are high in antioxidants, such as blueberries, raspberries, kiwis, or blackberries.

    Choose your makeup wisely

Don't just pick up any paints or makeup this Halloween. Many cheap face paints are toxic, with trace amounts of formaldehyde and other carcinogenic materials such as heavy metals (lead, cadmium, chromium, etc.). If that wasn't bad enough, they can also be very difficult to remove from your skin. It’s best to try to stick to your own makeup collection, even if it means watching an extra YouTube video or two to nail down your look.

      Moisturize your skin

Make sure to moisturize well underneath your makeup. Your skin will be dealing with a lot more makeup than it's used to, especially around the eye area. Try using a thick moisturizer in these areas to reduce the chances of your skin drying out throughout the night.

        Test in advance

Chances are you're going to be putting on a LOT of makeup to get the look you want. Don't give yourself the fright of your life because your skin broke out due to lack of testing. Testing your look in advance will not only help you avoid a bad breakout, but all of your ghoul-friends will be even more impressed with your final reveal. After all, practice makes scarily perfect.

          Post Dress-Up...

          Try not to binge

Ever tried holding off on that bag of Halloween candy? It's just not happening—and that's okay! Just try and take it slow. Eating an excess amount of sugar or fat can cause an insulin spike, which results in hormone alteration. This means increased sebum production (that natural oil produced by your face), causing clogged pores. Eating your candy over a longer period of time can help reduce breakouts and oily skin post-Halloween.

            Give your skin a detox

A great clay mask rich in minerals can help refresh your skin after a long night out and save you from a scare the next morning. Made with turmeric and kaolin clay, our Turmeric Face Mask absorbs excess oils and stale sebum. Its lavender and vanilla oils are great for detoxifying your skin and increasing circulation, which helps your skin’s elasticity and ability to heal.

              Scrub the dirt away

Exfoliation is very important after Halloween. A lot of dirt, oil, and bacteria will be lodged in your pores after a long night out wearing a scary face! Our Turmeric Face Scrub contains powerful natural exfoliants such as cane sugar and sea salt that’ll unclog your pores in no time. Your skin should be left feeling fresh and rejuvenated when you wake up the next morning—let's save the zombies for Halloween, yeah?

Infuse your skin with revitalizing oils

Whether you're dressing up as Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, or the newest Snapchat filter, your skin will need some serious post-costume love. Our Turmeric Face Elixir is great for giving your skin a necessary pick-me-up after the scariest night of your life. With a blend of 7 skin-friendly oils that have powerful astringent and healing properties, our elixir will make sure you wake up the next morning feeling fresh.
